July Social at PIE 2

PIE is a Wood Fired Pizza Joint that started feeding faces in Barrie, Ontario in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. SCYPA visits PIE at least once per year (what can we say – great food, drinks and location – what’s not to love?), and this year we’re hitting up the Barrie Beachfront location (11 Victoria Street, Barrie, ON) on July 24th at 6pm.

Join the Simcoe County Young Professionals Association for our July social as we network and socialize with other young professionals from Simcoe County. Drop by a little before 6pm if you’d like to eat dinner, or come a little after 6 for snacks and drinks (sorry, folks, you’ve gotta pay your own way this time!). Members and non-members are welcome to join us.

SCYPA Annual Summer BBQ – July 9th!

Every year, in early July, the Simcoe County Young Professionals Association gets together for a BBQ. This year, like we have for the past several years, we’re hosting our annual BBQ at the Clubhouse at the Innisbrook Golf Course (211 Lockhart Road, Barrie, Ontario). Join us starting at 6pm (BBQ dinner starts around 6:45) on Wednesday, July 9th (note this event is not on our usual 3rd Thursday of the month!) for salad, burgers, drinks, and desserts. There will be a cash bar as well.

This event is FREE for SCYPA Members (for more information on becoming a SCYPA Member, please visit www.scypa.ca/membership), or $10 for non-members.

Don’t forget to bring your business cards, as we’ll have some time to do some networking (plus we’ll also being doing a couple of draws for prizes)!  Hope to see you there!

SCYPA Social NEXT WEEK at Barnstormer Brewing

For the June SCYPA social, we’re checking out one of the hottest new spots in town: Barnstormer Brewing & Pizzeria (384 Yonge Street, Barrie, Ontario) – Barrie’s only brewpub producing craft beer where you can watch the brewing process!

Drop on by between 6pm and 9pm and try out some of their homemade pizza and fantastic craft beer! One of the owners will also be speaking to us about some of the beer that is brewed there, and we might even get a bit of a tour of the place!

No need to RSVP – just show up (Next Thursday – June 19th)!

May Social in Midland

For our social event this month (usually the 3rd Thursday of every month, which puts as at May 15th this month), we’re heading back up to the Midland Golf & Country Club (9536 Highway 93 North, Midland, Ontario) to save the members from Midland from having to drive to Barrie every month. We were up there last year, and we had a great turn out (in addition to some fantastic meals!).

Just come on in to the club house, and we’ll have a section all to ourselves.  The chef will have a selection of 5 different meals for us to choose from, so come hungry! We’ll aim to be there starting at 6-6:30 until at least 9pm. No need to RSVP – just show up!

For those in Barrie, if you’re interested in car-pooling, feel free to use the comment section below to connect with others heading up to Midland for the event.

Photos From the 2014 SCYPA Cooking Class

Last night (April 15th, 2014), the Simcoe County Young Professionals Association participated in our annual cooking class at Liberty North with Chef Rich. Approximately 30 people attended the event where we learned & watched Chef Rich prepare a variety of dishes including Goat Cheese Brule, Homemade Gravlox, Steak Tartare and Sesame-Crusted Seared Ahi Tuna. Needless to say, the food was amazing, and the event was, again, one of the best SCYPA events of the year.

Browse through the images above to check out some of the dishes we sampled. The feedback on the event was so good, we’re going to try to put together a 2nd cooking class this year in the fall with a Thanksgiving/Christmas turkey dinner theme. We’ll let you know as soon as we have the details.

2014 Bowl for Kids Sake Bowling Event

Simcoe County Young Professionals Association’s involvement with “Bowl for Kids Sake” 2014 was a great success!

The Chay Today Business Bowl to support Big Brothers Big Sisters on March 17th brought in over $5,000 for the charity with SCYPA raising the most money for the third year in a row. SCYPA’s bowling captain and chair Tim L. Walker also received recognition for being the top individual fundraiser. The SCYPA team raised over $1,400 this year!

SCYPA is proud to support various community endeavours and fundraising campaigns in Simcoe County. If you are interested in becoming involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters, please contact your local agency or call Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada at 1-800-263-9133.

Bowl for Kids Sake – Join the SCYPA Team!

Bowl for Kids Sake is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ premier fund-raising event where people get together and have a fun time bowling in support of Big Brother Big Sister mentoring programs. Research shows that children who have been mentored have higher self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school – empowering them to succeed, give back and realize their true potential.

Help support the mentoring programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Barrie & District by joining one of two SCYPA teams for the Chay Today Business Bowl on March 17th, 2014 at 4pm (Bowlerama Barrie).  We are very proud to have been among the top fundraisers the past FOUR years and hope that you will help us both bowl and raise money again this year.

Bowling will be FREE, but participants will be asked to raise a minimum of $30 in pledges.  If you are interested in joining the SCYPA team, please sign up here. If you’d like to make a donation to the SCYPA team or a member of our team, you can do so here!
